I don't think I have ever encountered a medical professional who has put me at such ease from the moment I was introduced. During my treatment I have had complete confidence and the treatment I have received from Dr Campbell and his team is excellent and I would not hesitate to recommend.

From my initial referral to my diagnosis I found both Dr. Campbell and his secretary both professional and friendly, all the information I received regarding appointments and preparation for investigations were very clear and informative. I felt at ease at my consultations with Dr. Campbell and he was extremely thorough in examinations, I felt I could ask any questions during both consultations and investigations and they were answered in a clear manner. I would highly recommend Dr. Campbell if anyone needs to see a Gastroenterologist and can't think of any constructive suggestions to improve what is already a brilliant service.

My iron deficiency/anaemia was a missed diagnosis for 8 years elsewhere. After it was incidentally discovered during surgical treatment for a fracture, 7 months of gynaecological investigations and treatment/surgery followed, along with oral iron, the latter continuing for a further 9 months again. 2 months on still, I noticed from ongoing blood results (I'm a vet surgeon) - that I was still losing iron, despite no obvious blood loss. This was a low point: I needed a good gastroenterologist as the gut is the next likely area for investigation. I found Simon via the internet, selecting him based on his website information. I wanted someone broadly experienced in his field, thorough, motivated, pro-active and up-to-date. A Consultant who would listen, take my case concerns seriously, and work with me. Of course I wanted competent surgery from someone I could get along with too.. Time was of the essence, as I was physically going backwards again, whilst my work demands fitness. Simon ticked all of the boxes. Human medicine is particularly admin. heavy and demands interactive organisation which can derail your case. Happily, Sarah Campbell, Simon's wife and PA makes up a great team - she's intelligent and understands the issues, is friendly, down-to-earth and superefficient. The Campbells did as they promised: - thorough history, listened, no rushing. - sensitive to individual case needs - I didn't want conscious gastroscopy, so they arranged a GA without breaking stride, -tissue-friendly - the gut bruises easily, but I had gastroscopy & colonoscopy same day, & didn't feel as if anything had been done! Impressive. Top Tip: Do the well-explained gut prep thoroughly - help Simon see your gut wall by providing a clean tunnel. It's worth it. Some of the problems can be very small to see. No cause of bleeding there, but a 5mm adenomatous polyp was found ( & removed) in the ascending colon. These can lead to bowel cancer in 5% cases, eventually - no family history and averagely good diet, however longstanding iron deficiency compromises immune function. Well worth finding this, as I can now be monitored for future recurrence. Next up was CT scans of chest, abdo & upper pelvis. No causes of blood loss there, but a couple of other incidental findings to check up/rule out with follow up ultrasound scan. All this was accomplished inside 2 weeks. Back on iron ( was offered iv infusion option too), fitting around work, I had capsule endoscopy with the incredible 'Pillcam'. £500 capsule which you scarcely know you've swallowed. In 8 hours there's a video of the otherwise not easily accessible small intestine, meanwhile, you carry on your ( easy) day's activities! Simon found angiodysplasias, small but multiple, in duodenum/jejunum. These cause unpredictably variable blood loss, and can worsen over time. I had argon plasma coagulation to lightly cauterise these, via enteroscopy under GA a month ago. Simon carried out the procedure, and again, no complications arose. Dr Campbell will continue to monitor my conditions and work with me to keep on top of them.I look forward to working with both him and Sarah. Couldn't fault the service, and I wouldn't want to go elsewhere. I found the whole experience to be reassuring and positive. Thanks both, also other supporting health staff.
